1. Take Ap classes. Yes they are challenging, but they are worth it. They push you further than most classes. In addition the teachers are great.
2. Plan your time. It's really important to have good time management skills. This has helped me so much throughout my high school career. Use a planner, write notes in your phone, or find an alternative that works for you.
3. Go all out during spirit weak. To be honest my first two years of high school I did not really try during spirit weeks. That is one of my regrets. Don't wait till your junior or senior year to go all out, start your freshmen year.
4. Don't stress it's only a test. This is something that took me a long time to understand. Once I did, it made a huge difference. Most likely you won't even remember most of your grades from high school.
5. Get out of your box. Try something new. High school is a great time to experiment with new things.
6. Be adventurous. Go for a hike or go exploring. Take a chance and go see the world.
7. Respect others. One of the most important things I have learned is respect. If we have respect for others and ourselves so many issues will be avoided.
8. Family time is valuable. Both of my brothers have now moved out of my house and it's now that I realize how important my time with them is. I hope that everyone learns at a young age to cherish the time they have with loved ones. You never know when they could be gone.
9. Public speaking isn't that bad. This year I took Speech and Debate. I hated public speaking and it still makes me anxious, but I have learned it isn't that bad. All you need to do is prepare and be confident in yourself.
10. Don't let the fear of failing keep you from trying something. This year I was invited and went to a basketball showcase. Normally these things intimidate me and I pass on them, but this time I didn't let the fear of failing keep me from participating. It turned out being a really positive experience. Don't not do something because you are scared. Just go for it!
